This is how the Master once explained the fact that Enlightenment came not through effort but through understanding:

大师是这样解释开悟这件事的：“开悟”来自于“看破”而非通过努力。

"Imagine all of you are hypnotized to believe there is a tiger in this room.

设想你们全都被催眠了，以为屋子里有一只老虎。

In your fear you will try to escape it, to fight it, to protect yourselves from it, to placate it.

出于恐惧，你们会设法逃跑，与之搏斗，保护你们自己，去安抚老虎。

 But once the spell is broken there is nothing to be done. And you are all radically changed:

可是什么也不用做，只是解除了催眠状态而已，你们就彻底变样了。

"So understanding breaks the spell, the broken spell brings change, change leads to inaction, inaction is power: You can do anything on earth, for it is no longer you who do it".

所以，一旦“看破”，就会“放下”，一旦“放下”，就得“自在”

见了便做，做了便放下，了了有何不了

慧生于觉，觉生于自在，生生还是无生
